Postpartum and new mum home support is not standard cleaning. It requires extra checks, a gentler pace, and genuine comfort working in a home with a newborn -- and it pays accordingly.
Where this sits against standard cleaner pay
Payscale puts the average cleaner hourly pay in Australia at $25.87 in 2026. Postpartum and new mum support is a specialised category above that baseline everywhere it is offered, because it combines the physical work of cleaning with the extra trust, checks and gentler approach a household with a newborn requires.
What the job actually involves
A kitchen, bathroom and living area reset, light tidying and bed making, laundry folding and dish support, and a light nursery tidy, done with low-tox, low VOC products and a quiet, baby-conscious approach. It is booked as a one-off visit in the early weeks or as recurring support through the fourth trimester.
The Family Certified requirement
This work requires the Family Certified track on top of standard requirements: a current Working With Children Check and a current whooping cough (pertussis) booster. It is a genuine barrier to entry, which is part of why it is priced as premium work.
What Family Certified cleaners take home with Nest and Nurture Society
- Postpartum & new mum support: $70/hr minimum, consistent nationally
- Flat $20/hr fee, never a percentage
- Paid every Wednesday, no chasing a family in the fourth trimester for payment
What you need to apply
Alongside the standard requirements -- an ABN, a current police check, public liability insurance, transport and genuine cleaning experience -- this work requires the Family Certified track described above.
